ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY
1,740 total clock hours, 83.5 total semester credit hours
The program offers exceptional clinical didactic education and
hands-on practical experiences needed to create a well-rounded,
fully competent cardiac sonographer in an environment based on teamwork
and mutual respect.
Prerequisite:
High School Diploma or GED or pass a ATB exams or a college degree are eligible to apply.
Class Schedule: Classes are offered at the campus during
morning 8:30AM-3PM, and evening 6PM-10PM Monday through Friday.
Echocardiography program consists of the following:
- Terminology, Anatomy, Physiology
- Physics & Instrumentation I
- Physics & Instrumentation II
- Vascular I
- Vascular II
- Echocardiography I - Coronary Artery Disease, Complications
of MI, Pericardial Diseases, Color Doppler, Spectral Doppler Instruments
Analysis, Artifacts, Safety, and Performance
- Echocardiography II - Congenital Heart Diseases
- Clinical Internship/Externship
Student will have opportunity to train and observe in the field
of adult echocardiography including patient management and clinical
medicine, ultrasound physics and instrumentation, pathophysiology
of cardiovascular diseases and therapeutic measures, 2D & M
mode echocardiography, cardiac doppler and color flow echocardiography,
advanced techniques in echocardiography and stress echocardiography.
Positions available to graduates of this program include intermediate
level invasive cardiology technician, echocardiographer, vascular
sonographer, and/or intermediate level assistant to ultrasound/sonograph
laboratory technician.
Although echocardiographers are not required to meet state licensing
requirements in California, many employers require credentials offered
by the American
Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Graduates
of the Echocardiography program will be eligible for ARDMS exams.
